What is a Canyon Extended Warranty?
A GMC Canyon service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs of services. Most consumers call this a "GMC Canyon Extended Warranty", however a GMC Canyon service contract is not a extended warranty as defined by federal law. The separate and additional cost distinguishes a service contract from a GMC warranty. A General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) may be arranged at any time and always costs extra; a GMC Canyon factory warranty comes with a new GMC Canyon and is included in the original price of the vehicle.

Their is only one factory backed protection plan, namely the GMPP - General Motors Protection Plan, in which is not a warranty at all, it is a service contract with a promise to perform (or pay for) mechanical breakdown. Many consumers feel more comfortable with the convenience and affordability of a factory backed protection plan. However, there are alternative Canyon extended warranty providers. Canyon Factory Warranty:
New Vehicle Limited Warranty on Canyon vehicles registered in the U.S.A. are covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first (some GM products may have additional coverage). The complete vehicle is covered, including tires, towing to your nearest GMC Canyon dealership, and cosmetic corrosion resulting from defects. Repairs will be made to correct any vehicle defect, and most warranty repairs will be made at no charge. Canyon are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your GMC Canyon dealer for terms of this limited warranty.
Canyon's and their components are assembled or produced by different operating units of General Motors, its subsidiaries, or suppliers to GMC worldwide. General Motors sometimes find it necessary to produce Canyon vehicles with different or differently sourced components than originally scheduled. Since some options may be unavailable when your vehicle is assembled, General Motors suggests you verify that your Canyon includes the equipment you ordered and that, if there were changes, they are acceptable to you.
Canyon are equipped with engines produced by GMC Powertrain or other suppliers to GMC worldwide. The engines in GMC products may also be used in other GMC makes and models.
An Important Note About Alterations and GMC Warranties
Installations or alterations to the original equipment vehicle (or chassis) as distributed by General Motors are not covered by the General Motors New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The special body company, assembler, equipment installer, or upfitter is solely responsible for warranties on the body or equipment and any alterations (or any effect of the alterations) to any of the parts, components, systems, or assemblies installed by GMC. General Motors is not responsible for the safety or quality of design features, materials, or workmanship of any alterations by such suppliers.
